Abstract
Perkembangan kota yang berkelanjutan (sustainable city) merupakan suatu proses kompleks yang melibatkan serangkaian interaksi berbagai aspek seperti ekonomi, lingkungan, dan sosial budaya dalam kehidupan komunitas kota. Aristektur merupakan salah satu bagian yang paling dominan dalam membentuk wajah dan identitas kota serta mempengaruhi kualitas hidup masyarakan kota. Dalam konteks arsitektur dan desain perkotaan, arsitektur berkelanjutan (sustainable architecture) dapat dicapai jika aspek budaya dan ekologi disinergikan sebagai dua hal yang saling melengkapi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi penerapan langgam arsitektur melayu dalamdesain bangunan kontemporer di kota Pekanbaru. Identifikasi didasarkan pada dua variable yaitu, aspek budaya yang menjelaskan penggunaan langgam arsitektur melayu sebagai identitas kota dan kawasan dan aspek ekologi yang merefleksikan penggunaan elemen arsitektur melayu dalam merespon kondisi lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif deskriptif yang menggambarkan penggunaan langgam arsitektur melayu di kota Pekanbaru. Dari penelitian ini diketahui bahwamayoritas desain bangunan kontemporermenggunakan langgam arsitektur melayu secara tidak tepat menurut filosofinya dan lebih memprioritaskan aspek identitas daripada aspek ekologi dalam merespon kondisi lingkungan. Hasil studi juga mengidentifikasi perberbedaan antara bangunan milik pemerintah daerah dan bangunanmilik swasta dalampenggunaan langgamarsitektur melayu.
